Januar 2022 21:04 An: van der Noll, Jolanda Betreff: 2022 ISPP Academy Call for Applications [Header Image] Call for Applications to the International Society of Political Psychology Academy 2022 The ISPP Academy is currently accepting applications for its annual three-day workshop held prior to the annual ISPP meeting. The Academy will take place in a hybrid format, July 11th ? July 13th, 2022. Overview of the ISPP Academy The ISPP Academy aims to train interested faculty and students in both foundational research and cutting-edge methodologies in the area of political psychology. The Academy?s central objective is to spread interest and promote training in political psychology around the world. This is done through bringing together early career scholars in political psychology and related fields with leading political psychology academics who can provide insights into the leading research in the field and allow for detailed discussion on topics of interest to participants. The 2022 ISPP Academy will feature lectures and several Q&A sessions with prominent political psychologists from around the world. The instructors will teach on a variety of topics. This year?s Academy will also have a pocket theme aligned with the 2022 Annual Meeting?s theme Democracy as an Achievement, which will be the focus of some of the lectures. Currently confirmed instructors include Felicia Pratto (University of Connecticut), Hermann Swart (Stellenbosch University), Iris ?e?elj (Belgrade University), Johanna Dunaway (Texas A&M University), Nicholas Valentino (University of Michigan), Rosario Aguilar (Newcastle University). We will be adding more names to the list in the upcoming weeks. Format for the 2022 Academy This year we expect the ISPP Academy to be a hybrid format. Lectures recorded by the Academy instructors will be made available online along with other preparation materials before the in-person sessions. The fellows will then participate in the in-person breakout sessions with instructors in Athens between July 11th and July 13th. The breakout sessions give the fellows the opportunity to ask questions about the topic and discuss their research. There will also be plenty of opportunities for fellows to interact and network with each other and with the Academy instructors such as lunches, a dinner, coffee breaks, and other social activities. The registration fee for the 2022 ISPP Academy will be USD $340. The ISPP Academy Fellows will also receive membership in ISPP for one year, and a 50% discount on registration for the 2022 ISPP Annual Meeting, which is already calculated in the registration prices paid for the ISPP Academy. Please note that all attendees will need to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and show proof of their vaccination status. Also note that all attendees will be required to wear face masks during the in-person breakout sessions. To Apply: 1. Complete the application form in this link 2. Send a short CV to theacademy at ispp.org To receive full consideration, please submit your application materials by 12PM EST on February 15th, 2022. Applications received after this date may not be considered. Bringing the political behaviour of youths and immigrants into the mainstream" Message-ID: Workshop "Actors without Arena" invites your contributions! Dear colleagues, we, Sabrina Mayer (DeZIM Berlin & University of Bamberg) and Arndt Leininger (Chemnitz University of Technology), are currently organising a workshop titled "Actors without arena? Bringing the political behaviour of youths and immigrants into the mainstream" which will take place in-person from May 13-15 at the Hertie School in Berlin. The workshop deals with the topic of youths, immigrants, and politics and involves an interdisciplinary perspective. So far, these societal groups have been largely overlooked and not been taken seriously as political actors by both politics and political science. Because they make up a relatively small part of the population and many, if not most of them, lack electoral eligibility, they do not represent a relevant clientele for political actors. Consequently, they represent an understudied research object for academic research into political behaviour. In our view, this is problematic since the political participation of youths and immigrants will become even more important in the future against the background of increasing transnational migration and demographic change. We believe that the topic has great scientific potential since research efforts on youths' and immigrants' political beliefs and activities exist in various disciplines. We hope that our workshop will provide participants with helpful feedback for their research and allow them to broaden their network beyond disciplinary boundaries to facilitate future collaborations. We also see the workshop as an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of youths and immigrants in politics. We invite contributions from scholars from political science, sociology, psychology, or related disciplines who work on the political behaviour and attitudes of youths and immigrants using different methodological approaches. We ask for submissions by researchers of all career levels and especially welcome submissions from early career researchers. Please send us your extended abstract (max. 300 words) by February 15th to arndt.leininger at phil.uni-chemnitz.de and sabrina.mayer at uni-due.de. Thanks to funding provided by Fritz Thyssen Foundation, we can cover travel costs and accommodation for one presenter per paper. We can also cover travel insurance costs due to the insecure travelling situation and, if need be, cancellation fees. The workshop will be held in English. EASP Meeting: New Directions in the Conceptualization and Measurement of Political Ideologies: Current Practices and Recent Developments July 6th - July 9th, 2022, GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Mannheim (Germany) Submission deadline: March 20th, 2022 Political ideology is an important construct in Social and Political Psychology as well as in neighboring disciplines such as Political Science, Sociology, and Economics. The study of the psychological antecedents, concomitants, and consequences of political ideologies has a long tradition and remains a vibrant source of contemporary scholarship. Factors making this area of research dynamic and prolific are the fertile ground for theories on the psychological roots of ideological proclivities, the constructive rivalry between the multiple theoretical perspectives, and the myriad of interdisciplinary synergies. However, controversies concerning the relevance of ideologies for political behavior, the appropriate dimensionality for parsimoniously characterizing ideological orientations, the operationalization of the symbolic and operational components of ideology, and the role of regional differences in the structure and content of political ideologies abound and are far from settled. At the same time, scientific progress is contingent on incremental shared consensus on both theory and measurement. To help bridge existing gaps, this meeting aims to convene experts in an effort to build consensus focusing specifically on conceptualizations and measurement of political ideologies, and its bi-directional implications: theory informing the measurement of political ideologies and measurement practices aiding theory development. We invite contributions that refer to political ideologies in a broad conceptual sense as well as contributions that refer to types or dimensions of ideology within specific countries or societal contexts. The meeting is structured with single sessions prioritizing discussion. It is scheduled to start on Wednesday July 6 around noon and end on Saturday July 9 around the same time. For Friday afternoon, we have planned a picturesque excursion to beautiful Heidelberg where we will explore the charms of Germany's oldest student city. We are strongly committed to facilitating applications from diverse backgrounds. We invite scholars across social scientific discipline and career levels, as well as from regions where political ideologies might not fit well into extant theoretical models. Interested scholars are encouraged to also apply with in-progress works where research ideas or preliminary analyses can be discussed. We allocated a significant share of the budget provided by EASP to offer financial support to scholars who receive no (or insufficient) financial support from their institutions to participate in the meeting. If this applies to you, please indicate so in the submission form along with an estimate of your accommodation and travel expenses. There are no participation fees. Abstract submissions (max. 300 words) for one of the following formats should be sent through the following web-formular by March 20, 2022: https://forms.gle/5S5a7Y31T6T6KRhU6. 1. Short talk (5 minutes talk + poster session): Short presentation or conversation starter that will be followed up by a corresponding poster session. 2. Full talk (20 minutes): Presentation of full papers or work in progress. Mannheim is located not far from the Frankfurt Airport (32 minutes by train) and has a very well-connected main train station. The organizers will provide a list of options for accommodation at different price levels. More information on the venue of the meeting can be found here. In addition to EASP, the organizers are grateful to GESIS and the German Longitudinal Election Study (GLES) for supporting this meeting. Axel Burger (axel.burger at gesis.org), Flavio Azevedo (flavio.azevedo at uni-jena.de), Deliah Bolesta (deliah.bolesta at zkfs.de) and Alexander Jedinger (alexander.jedinger at gesis.org) are happy to answer any inquiries related to this meeting. In this Research Topic we aim to bring together social scientists working on how threats and government responses to these threats (such as surveillance) shape citizens? attitudes and behaviors toward the political system or particular policies. Contributions to this Research Topic should address a combination of at least two of three elements: threat, surveillance, political attitudes/behavior. We welcome both single-country cases and comparative analyses. We are particularly interested in receiving contributions based on experiments (e.g. survey experiments, natural experiments), as well as on big data (e.g., text as data, social media data). July 2, 2022* *Title:* National identity: its nature, causes, and consequences *Location:* Castle Eyba, Eyba / Saalfeld, Germany Nationalism is a Janus-faced issue. On the one hand, nationalism creates prejudice, hatred, and violent conflicts among nations, but on the other hand, it also boosts national solidarity and cooperation. This might explain why nationalism, national identification and belonging continue to attract intense research attention from various disciplines including political science, sociology and history. In psychology, however, there is relatively less research on the nature, causes, and consequences of national identification. What is special and unique about national identification? What does national identification share with many if not all other group identities? What are the social psychological underpinnings of identifying with one?s nation and what factors strengthen and weaken our national identities? How does our subjective feeling of attachment and identification with our nations influence group cohesion and conflict management? In this workshop, we will discuss theoretical approaches and ongoing empirical work on what makes national group identities (e.g., language, culture, essentialized categorization, glorification, narcissism, national ideological polarization, etc.) unique. We will also examine the determinants of national identification (e.g., economic competition, values threats etc.) and its consequences (e.g., societal solidarity, national cohesion) within and between groups (e.g., prejudice, preference for national to international policies). Finally, we will also focus on attempts to compare different identities to better understand the unique features that link national identity and nationalism. We are happy to announce that Prof. Dr. Gina Gustavsson (University of Uppsala, Sweden) and Prof. Dr. Nick Hopkins (University of Dundee, UK) are our keynote speakers. The aim of the 22nd Jena Workshop is to bring together researchers who are interested in the determinants and consequences of national identity. This in-person workshop aims to stimulate further theorizing and empirical research on nationalism, patriotism, societal solidarity and cohesion, determinants and consequences of national identity and attachment such as intergroup prejudice, ethnocentrism, and intergroup conflict. Following the tradition of the Jena Workshops on Intergroup Processes, the format of this medium?size meeting is single?session with a strong focus on intensive discussions of unresolved questions on national identity and related issues. We wish to emphasize that ?work-in-progress? is greatly valued and preferred to summaries of already published data. Early career and senior researchers are encouraged to submit presentation proposals as the central purpose of this conference is to bring together junior and senior researchers. Note that the participant limit for the meeting is about 25. Two participants per paper are welcome (e.g., a PhD student and their supervisor). The meeting will take place from *June 30th ? July 2nd, 2022 *at Schloss Eyba (Germany), a picturesque historical castle at Saalfeld close to Jena and Weimar. Researchers interested in participation are invited to submit a max. 300 abstract for their proposed presentation by April 15th, 2022, to Clemens Lindner. A participation fee will be charged. In the preceding years, this fee was around 100? for PhD Students, and 200? for Post-Doc participants, including accommodation and full board. Clemens Lindner ( Clemens.Lindner at uni-jena.de) and Thomas Kessler (Thomas.Kessler at uni-jena.de) are happy to answer any inquiries related to the workshop. Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, we will adhere to the recommended precautions to ensure the safety of all participants. To participate in the meeting, all participants will be required to show a proof of vaccination or recovery from a COVID-19 infection and a proof of a negative rapid antigen test or a PCR test (2G+ rule). - --- Julia Elad-Strenger, Ph.D. Department of Political Studies Building 213, Room 238 Bar-Ilan University Ramat Gan, 5290002 Israel Email: eladstj at biu.ac.il Homepage: www.juliaeladstrenger.com - --- Julia Elad-Strenger, Ph.D. Department of Political Studies Building 213, Room 238 Bar-Ilan University Ramat Gan, 5290002 Israel Email: eladstj at biu.ac.il Homepage: www.juliaeladstrenger.com -------------- nächster Teil -------------- Ein Dateianhang mit HTML-Daten wurde abgetrennt... Reminder: Abstract submission deadline on March 20!! *************** EASP Meeting on New Directions in the Conceptualization and Measurement of Political Ideologies (July 6-9, 2022) in Mannheim, Germany EASP Meeting: New Directions in the Conceptualization and Measurement of Political Ideologies: Current Practices and Recent Developments July 6 ? July 9, 2022, GESIS ? Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Mannheim (Germany) Submission deadline: March 20, 2022 Political ideology is an important construct in Social and Political Psychology as well as in neighboring disciplines such as Political Science, Sociology, and Economics. For Friday afternoon, we have planned a picturesque excursion to beautiful Heidelberg where we will explore the charms of Germany?s oldest student city. 300 words) for one of the following formats should be sent through the following web-formular by March 20, 2022: https://forms.gle/5S5a7Y31T6T6KRhU6. 1) Short talk (5 minutes talk + poster session): Short presentation or conversation starter that will be followed up by a corresponding poster session. 2) Full talk (20 minutes): Presentation of full papers or work in progress. Mannheim is located not far from the Frankfurt Airport (32 minutes by train) and has a very well-connected main train station. The organizers will provide a list of options for accommodation at different price levels. More information on the venue of the meeting can be found here. -------------- nächster Teil -------------- Ein Dateianhang mit HTML-Daten wurde abgetrennt... Overall, we all are satisfied with all articles, in which all articles have given important contributions to social and political psychology research in Southeast Asia. As an introduction, here is the abstract: This special thematic section spotlights the current state of political psychology in Southeast Asia. Drawing from various research methodologies, five papers published in this special thematic section provide psychological insights into different political topics in the past and present-day Southeast Asia, including 1) Islam and politics; 2) terrorist labelling; 3) violence against minorities; 4) moralised policies; and 5) vote-buying. Overall, this special thematic section contributes to the understanding of the political psychology of non-WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) populations, particularly in Southeast Asia. The need for more publications with non-WEIRD samples in the field of political psychology is discussed, as are some strategies to actualise this goal. All articles are open access, so feel free to download it. And feel free to share this with other colleagues, as well. The research group will focus on investigations at the intersection of political science, psychology, and computer science. The larger questions the team will focus its research on are related to the impacts of the digital transformation on the presentation, dissemination, and processing of information; and how this in turn affects opinion-forming processes, especially in the political context. Topics such as filter bubbles, echo chambers (or simply "information limiting environments"), fake news, and desensitization (in connection to hate speech) in relation to political views, radicalization, and polarization will be of interest to the team. Currently, I am searching for a suitable Ph.D. student to work in the team. Specifications of the position can be found in the file annexed to this mail. Inquiries can be sent to me, Dr. Cornelia Sindermann, at jobs at iris.uni-stuttgart.de . I would be grateful if you could share the call with your networks and encourage anyone who you think might be interested to apply.
