[PolPsy-DEU] [Extern] Job advertisement: PhD student in DFG-funded research project (3+1 years, 65% FTE) at Chemnitz University of Technology

Dear colleagues,

In my DFG-funded project “Polarization through and in referendums: 
mapping polarization within and beyond the party system.” (PolRef), 
there is a vacancy for a

*Researcher (m/f/x) (65%, pay group 13 TV-L)*

for the duration of 3 years (+ 1 additional year after successful 
interim evaluation of the project) to be filled at the earliest 
opportunity (ideally 1 October 2022).

I would be very grateful if you could refer suitable applicants to the 
advertisement. The deadline for applications is 21/07/2022. I am looking 
for a person with an interest in empirical-quantitative research in 
comparative politics or political sociology.

Work responsibilities include:

  * Contributing to theoretical conceptualization and empirical analysis
    in work package 1 "Mapping polarization through and in referendums
    cross-nationally".
  * Data collection and cleaning, merging and analysis of existing data
    sets on referendums and political polarization
  * Participation in the supervision of student assistants
  * Publication of research results and their presentation at national
    and international meetings and conferences
  * Participation in the reporting and administration of the project

I expect the successful applicant (m/f/d) to pursue a PhD within the 
project.

Applicant's profile:

  * A university degree in the field of political or social sciences or
    in a comparable discipline
  * An interest in research in comparative politics and political sociology
  * An interest in the topics of direct democracy or polarization
  * Solid knowledge of quantitative methods and statistical software
    (preferably R, alternatively Stata, SPSS or others)
  * Very good knowledge of English, knowledge of German would be an
    advantage
  * A self-reliant way of working and willingness to take responsibility
    within a team
